Israel’s MK Zuaretz Bill Has Major Significance Israel’s Minister of Justice is just weeks away from deciding whether or not to send the government’s MK Zuaretz Bill––which would make soliciting a prostituted person illegal in the country and criminalize the client––to a voting stage. Currently, owning brothels and pimping is illegal in Israel, but prostitution is legal and in very high demand. Every month in Israel, there are one million purchases of illicit sex, generating profits of one billion dollars annually. With a national population of a little over seven and a half million, such numbers are staggering.
Trafficking is on the rise in a major way, as there are not enough women and children to meet the demand for illicit sex. Today 80% of women in prostitution in Israel are trafficking victims. For years, the supply was met mostly by Eastern European, with 3,000 entering the country every year. But in 2006, a new trend surfaced with the supply pool being met mostly by Israeli citizens and new young immigrants, due to spotlighted pressure to stop trafficking across borders.
In Israel, clients can purchase a woman without penalization. If the MK Zuaretz Bill is passed, clients would be penalized as well as educated on exploitation. This bill is based on the Swedish model which saw a 50% decline in prostitution since 1996. After lying dormant, the bill and corresponding petitions will be brought before the Minister of Justice to appeal for its immediate passing in early December. The Task Force has set up a website where you can voice your support of this bill’s passing to cabinet members.
“The Law will go out from Zion…” Isaiah 2:3
In December, Jerusalem will be our City in Focus. During and leading up to that time we are covering in prayer this extremely significant and strategic bill. Those laboring to see this passed are asking for us to help contend with them in the place of prayer. We are asking God to see His law go forth regarding this issue and create a ripple effect to the nations. Let us stand with those laboring and help lift up their hands in the battle to see captives freed and righteousness spring forth.
Prayer Points
- Pray for the increase of God’s government in Israel and that the government would rest on His shoulders.
- Pray that the large majority within the land that are unaware of trafficking learn in the awareness outreaches and cause their voice to count.
- Pray that those in the Knesset would choose God’s law and holiness would be a standard in the government.
- Pray for those laboring to be anointed, endued with power, and protected.
